Book 'N' Gauge

Book N Gauge_RH

Book-N-Gauge is back! The monthly book reading event, which is reputed to attract literary heavyweights, poets, alternative musicians and book enthusiasts is set to relaunch a long hiatus with the support of GTBank’s You Read Initiative, the come-back edition will take place on Sunday, 29th October 2017 at the You Read Library, 338, Herbert Macaulay way, Yaba, Lagos. It will host two contemporary poets Tolu Akinyemi and Seun Lari-Williams whose works have been published to great reviews.

Book N Gauge 2.0 would feature Tolu Akinyemi (Poetolu); a brilliant Poet whose works is targeted at people who hate poetry. With a strong appeal that has earned him loyal followings within and outside Nigeria, Poetolu strongly believes “a lot of people 'hate' poetry because of its usually obscure language. His collections, therefore contain poetry stripped of conformity with a motive to portray poetry as enjoyable.” He writes with a witty and unique style and has credited his works to being inspired by the seemingly trivial issues in the society.

NLNG Prize for Literature 2017 Longlist, Seun Lari-Williams’ collection have been described as simple yet wild. A lover of words, lawyer by day and a writer by night, his first book Garri for Breakfast was longlisted for the highly coveted NLNG Prize for Literature alongside Jumoke Verissimo, Tanure Ojaide, Obari Gomba and Ogaga Ifowodo. His collection is an anthology of amusing, quick-witted and scintillating poems that tell stories of very ordinary occurrences in a compelling manner. He also balances the use of rhymes and satire in most of his poems; giving them an entertaining edge and eloquence. At the launch and Book reading of Garri For Breakfast, the audience was served Garri and cold water; further demonstrating Seun Lari-Williams sharp-wit and originality.

Book N Gauge will hold at the You Read Library, 338 Herbert Macaulay Way, Yaba Lagos at 3pm. There will be book signings, book sales and auction, Q&A, lively discussions around books and all things literary.
