Cogitations is a Spoken Word and Music concert seeking to effect change and foster critical thinking through the sacred art of poetry. The concert, which has run for three years, returns in 2017 on December 17, 2017 at The Center For Contemporary Art, Lagos.
Themed Flawless, Cogitations 2017 seeks to encourage the idea that our imperfections make us perfect and remind us that nothing connects the collective human experience as much as service. It is an evening of spoken word, music, dance, short story readings, live paintings and a cocktail in hand.
Being a charitable event with all the proceeds going into the Shelves and Shelter Initiative that gifts underprivileged communities with books and relief materials, Cogitations 2017 is a total evening. Looking to implant in the hearts of its guests that indeed giving can be convenient, indeed it can feel somewhat like art, like poetry, or as thrilling as a cold cocktail in hand.
The 2017 lineup features a variety of guests from veterans in the industry to newbies who know their art likewise. There will be spoken word performances from Wome Uyeye, War of words convener, Olumide Olulu Holloway, LKG and Poethick Samurai. There will also be poetry readings from Brunel Prize Winner, Romeo Oriogun, author of Brave, Kamnelechukwu and Amaka Felly. You can expect story readings from Mimi Mwiya and Chimee Adioha, and musical performances from Shalamar’s Jeffrey Daniel, Jeba, Kimberly Oyiboka and Toborated** amongst others. The days preceding the concert have also been an avenue for people around the world to share their stories of overcoming flaws in the #MyFlawlessStory Campaign. This is considered to be a major arm of the event seeing it allows the celebration of uniqueness. You can read up all the past Flawless stories here.
