CONDUCT BOOK DRIVE

Currently, we collect books in Lagos and London. We are however looking to expand, and conduct book drives in other parts of the world in order to increase the amount of resources we can make available to the Nigerian youth. We collect most* types of books, irrespective of disciplinary, publication date and educational level.

LOGISTICS

We collect books from Diaspora with the aim of shipping the books to our office in Lagos, and subsequently, distributing the different communities across Nigeria. We are looking to partner with global logistics company, and interstate transportation service providers in Nigeria. Alternatively, you can fund our logistical procedure.

BUILD A LIBRARY

Beyond providing just books for our select schools, we intend to build functional library units for each project. Where possible and as needed, we aim to facilitate the renovation of classrooms and provision of school supplies, in order to create a conducive learning environment for the children at our select schools.

SPONSOR TRAINING OF TEACHERS

Books and resources set the foundation, great teachers set the structure. Thus, the quality of teaching is paramount to the effective learning and development of students. By providing training programs for the teachers at our select schools, we are able to enhance the quality of education received, and increase the success rate of the students.

Knowledge, however acquired, is transformative. So, also, is education. It’s a powerful tool that shapes, realigns and connects. Literature, likewise, connects; beyond the pages, it connects stories, people, fragments of society and the diverse homes in all of us. _ Understanding this, we set out with 3 arms—Education, Society and Literary—in August 2016 to improve access to Education and fill in the knowledge gap through literature. We’re reconnecting past with present through history, and looking ahead. _ We run a virtual (and a quarterly physical) bookclub and online literary journal, with the aim of increasing access to African literature, promote critical dialogue on thematic issues and publish/share own stories. That said, we publish reviews, interviews, media and academic papers on African literature and poetry/prose by authors with African heritage; sell and source books and create bomb content. _ We’re a team of 10 (some tagged) across Nigeria, UK, US, Ghana and South Africa—all relentless in our vision to empower and enrich youtt dem, and build digital and physical libraries. On this day, in 1956, thousands of women in South Africa took to the streets to protest the Pass Laws—repressive laws that required black/African women (the law had initially applied to just African men) in Apartheid South Africa to carry reference books, in order to be permitted in any urban area, or, face trial. _ Led by Sophie De Bruyn, Helen Joseph, Lillian Ngoyi and Amina Cachalia (swipe left) and organised by the Federation Of South African Women (FSAW), women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria with a petition against the inhumane laws (see 3rd picture) and oppression. Across the country, women (1st picture was taken in Cape Town) united to use their collective voice. _ This day, since 1995, is thus recognised and celebrated as the South African #WomensDay; symbolising the strength of South African women.
